Group B Strep Vaccine

Group B Strep Vaccine Study for Women

Group B Streptococcus are bacteria that come and go naturally in the body. Most of the time the bacteria are not harmful, but they can cause serious illness in people of all ages. Group B strep disease most frequently occurs in the very young—newborns and infants younger than 3 months of age—and the elderly, especially older adults with comorbid conditions. However, GBS disease has been reported in individuals of all ages, and pregnant women may be particularly susceptible. Among infants, GBS may cause serious disease, including sepsis, meningitis, and pneumonia.

Pfizer is developing a vaccine for the prevention of 6 strains of group B strep that cause the majority of disease in infants by immunization of pregnant women. Pregnant women have been vaccinated globally to prevent neonatal tetanus and pertussis in young infants, and to protect women and their infants against influenza. In this study, participants will  be vaccinated with an investigational vaccine and the publicly available Tdap vaccine.

PriMED Physicians is proud to offer this clinical research trial to help be one step closer in preventing Group B strep disease in women and infants.
