Hypogonadism occurs when the sex glands in the body do not produce enough of the sex hormone. In men, this hormone is called testosterone. This condition may also be known as low testosterone, low T, low serum testosterone, or andropause. Hypogonadism affects an estimated 4 to 5 million men in the US and becomes more common in men as they get older.
Do you have Low Testosterone? Common symptoms:
Fatigue or lack of energy
Loss of muscle mass
Decreased sex drive
Mood changes
Loss of body hair/reduced shaving
Unless it is caused by another condition that is treatable, Low T is a chronic (long-term) condition that may need lifelong treatment. Testosterone replacement therapy is a widely used treatment for low T and can help return hormone levels and help alleviate symptoms. The medicine is most commonly given as a skin gel, skin patch, or injection.
