Pediatric Pneumococcal Vaccine Study

Study Name:

Pediatric Pneumococcal Vaccine Study

Streptococcus pneumoniae, is a bacteria that causes pneumococcal disease. These infections can range from ear and sinus infections to blood infections, pneumonia, and meningitis. It is the most common bacterial cause of acute middle ear infections in children. Children under two years, are one of the age groups most vulnerable to this disease.

Description: Subjects 15- 24 months

The current pneumococcal vaccination protects children against 13 strains of the bacteria. Despite the wide availability of this vaccine, pneumococcal disease remains a concern due to other strains emerging. This is why an investigational vaccine is being researched to include the original 13 along with seven additional strains. We are looking at a 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine to help expand protection against pneumococcal disease beyond that covered by the current 13-valent pneumococcal vaccines in children. PriMed is looking for children 15- 24 months of age who have received their previous pneumococcal vaccinations in order to qualify.
