How Does Telehealth Work?

We make connecting with your provider simple and secure. When you schedule a telehealth appointment, our team will send you a personalized link to a secure application on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. All you need is a device with a camera and a reliable internet connection.

At the time of your appointment, simply open the link, and you and your provider will be able to see and talk to each other. To ensure a successful visit, please make sure you are in a private, quiet location within the state of Ohio.

  • Family Practice and Neurology Appointments: Connect to your telehealth visit through Premier Health's MyChart.
  • Pediatric Appointments: Connect through MyChart, the patient portal offered by Dayton Children's Hospital.

Telehealth FAQs

When is telehealth the best option?

Telehealth is an excellent choice for many health concerns. Through a telehealth appointment, your provider can:

  • Diagnose acute health problems
  • Discuss treatment options
  • Follow up on existing conditions and courses of treatment
  • Refill prescriptions

It is important to note that we only schedule telehealth visits when your health concern is appropriate for a virtual evaluation. If anything arises during the visit that requires an in-person exam, we will ensure that an appointment is arranged for you.

Are telehealth visits covered by my insurance?

Telehealth visits are billed to your insurance provider just like a standard in-office visit. Co-pays and deductibles may apply depending on your specific health plan. We recommend checking with your insurance provider for details about your coverage.

Are my telehealth visits secure?

Yes. We use secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure your privacy and the confidentiality of your health information. Your virtual visit is a private conversation between you and your provider.

What types of appointments can be done through telehealth?

Many appointment types are suitable for telehealth, including:

  • Follow-ups for chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure
  • Medication management
  • Consultations for common illnesses like colds or rashes
  • Behavioral health support

If you are unsure whether your visit qualifies for telehealth, we encourage you to reach out to your provider through your patient portal.
