Pediatric Pain/Fever Relief:

Recommendations for Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Dosing

- Giving Acetaminophen prior to vaccination is not recommended.

- Acetaminophen should be administered based on the weight of child not age.

- Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) should not be used under 6 months of age.

- Your baby may run a fever after vaccination. This is not an uncommon occurrence.

- Consider using Acetaminophen only if your child develops symptoms, such as increased fussiness, or a fever of 101 degrees or greater. If symptoms continue, you may repeat a dose every 4 to 6 hours up to 5 doses in 24 hours.

- It is not recommended to give Acetaminophen automatically every 4-6 hours following vaccination.
